LAHORE (Sept 7): An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) conducting a hearing on the May 9 cases has handed over PTI leader and former Federal Minister for Revenue, Hammad Azhar, to the police on a 20-day physical remand in the Jinnah House attack case.
On Monday, ATC Judge Muhammad Akram presided over the case hearing. During the proceedings, the court initially directed irrelevant individuals, including media representatives, to leave the courtroom. However, the media was later allowed to report on the proceedings but was restricted from using mobile phones.
The prosecution argued that Hammad Azhar is nominated in the case and physical remand is required for investigation. They stated that they need to conduct a photogrammetry test and secure evidence related to his social media accounts and the mobile phone allegedly used to spread chaos.

Hammad Azhar’s lawyer contended that on May 9, Hammad Azhar was present in Gujranwala and was not at the crime scene, adding that his location could be verified through geo-fencing. The lawyer further stated that Hammad Azhar is ready for social media account checks and the photogrammetry test, but remand cannot be granted based on evidence expected to be obtained in the future.
Announcing its reserved verdict on Hammad Azhar’s physical remand, the court handed him over to the police for a 20-day physical remand.
He served as the president of the PTI Punjab chapter before going underground. Hamad has been named in over 50 criminal cases. He had been successfully avoiding arrest, until police detained him in Punjab in September 2026 and transferred him to Lahore police custody for further investigation.
