ISLAMABAD (Oct 19): Pakistan’s defense minister who is supposed to handles complex national security strategies. But on social media, Khawaja Asif handles something entirely different: spot-the-leopard puzzles, and according to the internet, he is failing at it.

Asif, who serves as the Defense Minister of Pakistan, became the latest victim of “Twitter diplomacy” gone wrong this week after confidently miscounting a camouflaged pack of wild cats on X (formerly Twitter).

The leopard incident

The internet frenzy began when a user , Rossy, posted a high-stakes challenge: find the hidden leopards blending into a rugged rocky landscape, prompting debates over the total.

While most defense chiefs might pass on wildlife spotting, Asif dove in headfirst. He quote-tweeted the post, proudly declaring that he had successfully located six leopards.

There was just one problem: there were actually eight.

Social media users immediately swarmed the defense minister’s timeline to correct his math, sparking a wave of mockery and memes.

Internet backlash

Pakistani netizens spared no feelings in the replies, ranging from playful teasing to outright disbelief that a man overseeing national security could miss a twenty-five percent margin of error on dangerous predators.

• “Challl jhoooota!” (Oh, come on, you liar!), wrote one user with a smirking emoji.

• “8 janab addy tusi sharp,” (There are eight, sir, aren’t you a sharp one), mocked another.

• “Grow up, man,” a sharper critic chimed in. “Never seen anywhere a defense minister of a nuclear state doing such foolish things on a public platform.”

A pattern of scrolling

This is not Asif’s first digital fender bender. Just days prior, the minister faced heavy backlash for confidently commenting on a highly realistic, AI-generated image as if it were real news. After taking a beating from fact-checkers, he was forced to issue a rare internet clarification.

“Apart from being the Defense Minister, I am also Khawaja Asif,” he wrote in his defense, essentially asking the public for a “hall pass” to use social media like any ordinary citizen.

While Asif may want to separate his civilian internet habits from his official cabinet duties, the internet remains undefeated. For now, critics suggest that if Pakistan ever faces a strategic threat disguised as a pile of rocks, the defense ministry might want to call for a second opinion.
