RAWALPINDI (Oct 2): The Pakistani military has issued a stark warning that any attempt to replicate the violent unrest of May 9 will be met with decisive force, speaking out just two days before a planned anti-government protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Chaired by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters on Friday made it clear that every available measure would be taken to safeguard national stability. The military leadership resolved to deal with agitators with an iron fist, drawing a firm line against political violence.
The top commanders agreed that any effort to incite chaos or orchestrate a breakdown of law and order under any pretext would be dismantled without hesitation. Security forces, the military noted, will deploy decisive force and uphold the rule of law blindly and without discrimination.

“Any attempt to incite chaos or engineer a repeat of the May 9 unrest under any pretext will be dealt with unhesitatingly and indiscriminately through the use of decisive force and the rule of law,” the Corps commanders said.
This high-stakes warning comes as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf presses ahead with its call for a major long march toward the federal capital on October 4. The opposition party previously delayed a demonstration scheduled for September 27, with insiders pointing to insufficient preparation, funding shortages, and stringent government security blockades as the primary reasons for the postponement.
Despite the ongoing talks between the government and the PTI aimed at easing political tensions and compounding warnings from state authorities, the party remains entirely defiant and refuses to back down from the weekend mobilisations. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has confirmed the regional mobilization plans, declaring that the convoy would depart Lakki Marwat on October 4 with great fanfare.
Addressing the PTI leaders and workers at provincial secretariat in Peshawar, Sohail Afridi stated that he will personally lead the convoy, which is set to begin its journey from Lucky Marwat on October 4. The Chief Minister added that the march will arrive in Peshawar on October 6, before resuming its journey from the provincial capital on the morning of October 7.
Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Naveed Qamar, who attended the Govt-PTI talks, has warned the PTI that any attempt to storm the federal capital could lead to “dangerous consequences”, stating that the country’s patience has run entirely thin amid escalating security challenges.
Speaking during an appearance on a current affairs programme, the veteran politician disclosed that the PPP has extended “friendly advice” to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to deter them from pursuing a path of violent confrontation.
The security situation, he argued, leaves no room for political destabilisation. “We are facing terrorist incidents on a daily basis,” Qamar said. “Every single day, both ordinary citizens and our soldiers are making the ultimate sacrifice. This state of affairs has simply become unbearable.”
The PPP leader indicated that the relentless pressure on the state’s security apparatus has brought matters to a critical juncture.
Referring to the message conveyed during Corps Commanders Conference, he suggested that patience is being getting thin somewhere.
“A very powerful message has been delivered today,” the PPP leader added. “And that message is straightforward: enough is enough. It is precisely why patience is wearing out across the board.”
