RIYADH (Oct 13): Saudi Arabia has launched the 25th World WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh, marking the first time the Kingdom has hosted this prestigious international event. The five-day summit, running from 11 to 15 October, brings together energy ministers, global CEOs, industry experts, and policymakers under the central theme: “Pathways to an Energy Future for All.”
Geopolitical shadows and resilience
The congress goes ahead amid heightened regional tensions following recent drone and missile strikes targeting Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport. While the security situation and subsequent travel disruptions have prevented several high-profile Western energy executives from attending in person, the event has proceeded without delay.
Opening the conference, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman emphasised the critical need for global cooperation to ensure energy security. He stressed that international solidarity remains vital to stabilizing oil and gas markets despite regional geopolitical volatility.
Global market focus
Delegates are locked in high-level discussions regarding the restructuring of global oil and gas supply chains, the acceleration of renewable energy transition, and the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in resource management. The primary objective of the Riyadh summit is to forge a unified international strategy to secure sustainable and reliable energy supplies.
Pakistan pledges solidarity
Representing Islamabad, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik formally addressed the assembly, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering strategic alignment with Riyadh during this period of regional friction.
“Pakistan stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Saudi Arabia,” Malik stated, calling for robust, joint investment frameworks to reinforce long-term energy security across South Asia and the Middle East.
The congress is expected to conclude later this week with the unveiling of several major multilateral investment pacts and definitive policy declarations on future energy transition targets.
