ISLAMABAD (Nov 1): Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has strongly condemned a tragic stampede at a TikToker’s wedding in Daska, which resulted in the death of two individuals, calling the incident an unpardonable exploitation of the region’s impoverished population.
In a scathing statement issued on social media, the Defence Minister revealed that a digital creator, popularly known as “Patlu,” had announced the distribution of expensive giveaways during his wedding celebrations. Asif characterized the entire affair as a calculated stunt designed purely to maximize social media engagement and revenue, labeling the prizes as a business investment rather than an act of charity.

“The poverty of the local people was mocked just to drive up views and earnings,” the minister stated, adding that the lure of high-value gifts drew an unmanageable crowd, triggering a chaotic stampede that claimed two innocent lives.
Following the fatal incident, the accused TikToker reportedly went into hiding. The Defence Minister alleged that the influencer is currently using his clout to evade accountability and compromise the legal process.
Expressing deep concern over the unchecked influence of digital platforms, Asif warned that unregulated social media is becoming “a deadly poison” for Pakistani society. He highlighted that prominent content creators are now generating massive revenues—running into hundreds of millions, if not billions of rupees.

Concluding his statement, the minister questioned the efficacy of the country’s current fiscal framework, demanding to know whether existing tax laws are equipped to monitor, regulate, and tax the skyrocketing earnings and activities of digital influencers.
