LONDON (Oct 15): An Emirati royal lady passed out on a London street after a cocaine binge while a barefoot toddler wandered near a busy road, a court has heard.

Mahrah Al Nahyan, 32, a member of Abu Dhabi’s multi-billion-pound ruling family by marriage, was found slumped against railings in west London next to an unconscious man.

A passerby raised the alarm after spotting a three-year-old child unattended and playing with a scooter dangerously close to moving traffic. Al Nahyan yesterday admitted a single charge of child neglect at Southwark Crown Court.

Prosecutor Rio Pahlavanpour told the court that members of the public were forced to intervene when the toddler ran towards the road while chasing a piece of paper.

Al Nahyan remained completely unresponsive for half an hour after police arrived at the scene. Footage filmed by an onlooker showed the royal sprawled on the pavement alongside children’s toys, including a scooter and a toy plane.

When she finally regained consciousness, she reacted erratically to those trying to help, shouting: “This is not a slaughterhouse, why do you care so much? Why are you so worried?”

A police search uncovered drug paraphernalia, though no illicit substances were found on her person.

The court heard that Al Nahyan has since spent months undergoing intensive drug addiction treatment at the prestigious Priory clinic in Woking, Surrey.

Defending, Stephen Vullo KC said his client felt “significant remorse” and had made a “grave mistake.” He stated that while she had not taken drugs on the day of the incident, she was profoundly exhausted following a multi-day cocaine binge.

Vullo added that Al Nahyan intends to complete her three-month residential programme before renting a property in Guildford to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings as a day patient.

Sentencing her, Justice Johnson KC noted that the child faced a severe risk of being killed, injured, or abducted had strangers not stepped in.

“By leaving [the child] to play barefoot in the street while under the influence of drugs, you showed a recklessness and disregard for [the child’s] safety,” the judge said.

Al Nahyan, who receives an allowance of £8,000 a month, was handed a two-year community order with a rehabilitation requirement. She was also fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs.

The court explicitly protected the privacy of the three-year-old child involved; the exact maternal or legal relationship between Al Nahyan and the toddler has not been released to the media.

‘Bye-bye, papa’: She blew a kiss to her father, waved her hand, and jumped into the fast-flowing river

Though not a royal by birth, she is a member of one of the wealthiest dynasties on the planet. Backed by the UAE’s vast oil reserves and a sweeping portfolio of global investments, the Al Nahyan family sits on a fortune estimated to exceed £250 billion ($300 billion).
