ISLAMABAD (Oct 27): One civilian was killed and five members of the same family sustained injuries when Afghan Taliban forces opened fire on a residential area in the Angoor Adda sector of South Waziristan along the Pak-Afghan border on Tuesday, security sources said.
According to military officials, Pak Army troops stationed at the border responded immediately with “heavy and effective retaliatory fire,” claiming to have destroyed several Afghan border posts.
Local security sources stated that the casualty occurred when a mortar shell fired from the Afghan side struck a residential compound in the border village, killing one person on the spot and wounding five others, including women and children.
The unprovoked shelling targeting civilian areas has triggered widespread anger and protests among the local tribesmen, who have long demanded stricter security measures along the volatile frontier.
While the border remains highly tense, security officials confirmed that Pakistani troops have been placed on high alert to counter any further cross-border aggression. No statement has yet been issued by the Afghan interim government regarding the clash.
