ISLAMABAD (Nov 2): Senior legal counsel Barrister Salman Safdar on Monday held a high-profile meeting with incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail to review their ongoing legal battles and detention conditions.

The meeting, authorized by jail administration after persistent legal requests, marked a significant development given the prolonged restriction on counsel access. According to a statement released by Safdar on social media, this was his first direct meeting with Imran Khan in seven months, while access to Bushra Bibi had been restricted for nearly eleven months.

The 40-minute session commenced at 4:30 PM, during which the defense attorney was briefed firsthand on the couple’s health status and the conditions of their confinement.

Safdar noted that while the primary objective was to coordinate their overarching legal strategy, the limited time allocated by jail authorities proved insufficient to thoroughly address the extensive list of pending cases and complex constitutional matters currently facing the dynamic.

Despite the time constraints, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi issued fresh, specific instructions to their legal team regarding upcoming court proceedings and defense strategies. Safdar indicated that the legal team will now act on these directives as they navigate the multiple high-stakes cases currently under trial.

Beyond his private practice, Barrister Salman Safdar frequently serves as a consultant on prosecution development and criminal justice reform in Pakistan. His extensive experience in the legal system has led the Supreme Court of Pakistan to appoint him as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) on multiple occasions.

Notably, in early 2026, the apex court entrusted him with the sensitive task of visiting Adiala Jail to inspect the facility and submit an independent report on the confinement conditions and health status of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
