YEJAHAN REPORT
ISLAMABAD (Aug 21, 2026): The Foreign Minister of Syria Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani has expressed the possibility of mending his country’s ties with Iran if Pakistan invites both of them to the negotiating table and mediates the talks, sources said.
Giving an informal briefing to Pakistani journalists on Thursday, Al-Shaibani said, “If Iran acknowledges its past role with Syria and its people and Pakistan then offers to mediate between the two countries, Damascus will have no objection.”
Syrian foreign minister who arrived in Pakistan on August 19 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, also expressed the Syrian government’s willingness to join the Makkah Agreement.

He said, “the Syrian government is considering various options regarding potential cooperation or inclusion under the Makkah Agreement reached between Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia,” adding, “Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are important countries in the region, and Syria will decide in the future whether or not to become a part of this alliance.”
“There are natural ties between the people of both countries. The governments of Pakistan and Syria desire to promote relations by opening the door to people-to-people ties,” he said.
The Syrian foreign minister also warned Iran of meddling in the internal affairs of Lebanon. He said Syria supports the stability of Lebanon; Iran must not interfere in the internal affairs of Lebanon. If the government of Lebanon asks for our help, we will not hesitate, he warned.
Al-Shaibani maintained that the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chief of Defence Forces also desire good relations with Syria. He told journalists that Islamabad did not extend an offer for mediation between Syria and Iran.
Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani praised Turkey’s role in the region and condemned cross-border terror activities planned in Afghanistan to target Pakistan.
“We condemn any terrorist attack on Pakistan from Afghanistan and call for the government of Afghanistan to stop terrorism,” he said.
Syrian foreign minister said, Turkey has stood with Syria and its people during the past 14 years. It is an important ally of Syria. The United States has no right to tell us who our ally or partner can be.
Earlier, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani held a meeting with the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
