England defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the third Test played at Edgbaston to win the series 3-0. Chasing a target of 130 runs on Saturday, England did not have a good start. Mohammad Abbas dismissed Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay in the very first over.
Joe Root hit a boundary through the slips off the very first ball he faced from Razaullah. Later, he was bowled by Mohammad Ali, but the umpire ruled it a no-ball. Root was also dropped off a delivery from Mohammad Abbas as the catch slipped between the first and second slips. Joe Root completed his half-century off 57 balls, while Jordan Cox also scored a half-century. England chased down the target in the 25th over. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 62 runs, and Jordan Cox remained not out on 59 runs.
Earlier, Pakistan’s debutant fast bowler Razaullah smashed a quickfire 81 off just 63 balls in the second innings. His explosive knock included nine massive sixes. He also anchored a crucial 121-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Mohammad Abbas, who chipped in with 42 runs. Razaullah had previously made an impact with the ball, picking up four wickets in England’s first innings.
Pakistan’s tour had been a heavy struggle from the start, suffering a crushing defeat by an innings and 103 runs in the opening Test, followed by a 194-run loss in the second match.
Following the second Test disaster, the management made a drastic overhaul by flying home seven players and replacing them with seven fresh faces, including Razaullah. The coaching setup wasn’t spared either, as head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and assistant coach Umar Gul were sacked from their roles.
Though Pakistan rang in four changes to their playing XI for the third Test, their batting woes continued as the entire team collapsed for a mere 133 runs in the first innings.
Looking ahead, England—eyeing a 3-0 series whitewash—is set to face South Africa in a Test series through December and January, followed by a highly anticipated home Ashes series next year.
