KARACHI (Sept 22): In a shocking incident of so-called ‘honor killing’, 19-year-old Zarqa Bibi was allegedly put to death by her own relatives for solemnizing a court marriage against their will.

Mominabad police registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) following a complaint lodged by the victim’s grieving husband, Abdul Malik. According to official reports, the young bride, identified as 19-year-old Zarqa Bibi, was allegedly put to death by her own relatives shortly after being lured back to her family home under false pretenses.

19-year-old Zarqa Bibi was allegedly put to death by her own relatives for solemnizing court marriage against their will.

In a harrowing statement delivered to investigators, Malik revealed that the couple had solemnised a court marriage just 12 days before. The union prompted an immediate backlash from the bride’s family, who arrived at the victims home with some elders. During the ‘jirga’ held at Malik’s house, the girl’s uncle, Idris Khan, reportedly accepted Rs 3,000,000 as financial settlement to defuse the tension and secure formal reconciliation.

According to the FIR the same uncle (Idrees Khan) later arrived at couple’s residence, swearing a solemn oath upon the Holy Quran that the family harboured no ill intent and merely wished to escort the young woman home to arrange a traditional, dignified wedding reception. Trusting the sacred pledge, the girl was handed over to her uncle.

Tragedy struck just hours later when neighbours contacted Abdul Malik at midnight to inform him that emergency services and police vehicles had swarmed the residence of Zarqa Bibi who had been killed.

THE SILENT HORROR FLAT: Family of five found dead ‘sleeping’ in beds after string of tragic blows

Appealing directly to senior authorities and the media, the widowed husband stated that he is now facing relentless death threats. He has urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served for his late wife.

According to data compiled by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), at least 470 “honour” killings were reported across Pakistan in 2025 alone. Human rights defenders, however, routinely warn that official figures represent only a fraction of the actual toll, as many cases in rural regions are quietly buried by families and passed off as natural deaths.
