ATHENS (Oct 9): A joint European repatriation operation has seen 40 Pakistani nationals and 10 Georgian citizens deported from Greece aboard a specially chartered flight.
According to an official statement released by the Hellenic Police, the coordinated operation was financed and managed in tandem with Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. Authorities in Cyprus also participated in the joint action, which forms part of a wider, intensified crackdown on illegal migration along the European Union’s southeastern frontiers.
The deportees were accompanied throughout the journey by a specialized detachment including police escorts, medical practitioners, and interpreters to ensure compliance with international return protocols.
The enforcement action serves as a stark reminder of the realities facing thousands of migrants who pay exorbitant sums to human trafficking networks in pursuit of a life in Europe. Experts warn that these irregular routes across the Mediterranean and through the Balkans present extreme dangers to life, with absolutely no guarantee of securing residency at the end of the journey.
