RAWALPINDI (Oct 9): A man has been arrested in Rawalpindi for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create and distribute explicit fake images and videos of a woman on social media.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) launched an operation following a formal complaint by the victim, leading to the apprehension of the suspect, identified as Nayyar Shamran Iqbal Bhatti. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the suspect allegedly generated the explicit material using AI tools before sharing it across multiple fabricated social media profiles.

Investigators tracked down the suspect through advanced forensic techniques, which included analysing data provided by Meta. Digital evidence and mobile phones seized from the suspect have undergone forensic analysis, revealing links that connect him to the alleged crime.

The NCCIA has registered a case and an investigation is underway. Commenting on the operation, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Director General of the NCCIA, stated that safeguarding the privacy and dignity of citizens remains the agency’s primary objective.
