ISLAMABAD (Oct 12): The leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has launched a fierce assault on the federal government’s decision to impose an Emergency and Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, branding it the “darkest day in democratic history”.

Speaking at a packed press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, the veteran politician stated unequivocally that his party would not accept the administration’s unconstitutional and forced measures for a single moment.

The JUI-F chief accused the federal authorities of executing a night raid on democracy and the fundamental rights of the public. He completely rejected the declaration of Governor’s rule across the province and the introduction of emergency measures in targeted districts, promising a robust, multi-front resistance. To challenge the federal intervention, the opposition leader outlined a strategy that will see his party take the fight directly to the courts to test the constitutional validity of the executive order, mount fierce resistance on the floor of parliament, and take the campaign directly to the streets to rally public sentiment against the measures.

Refusing to back down, the veteran cleric underscored that the current crisis directly touches upon the core principles of his lifelong political career. He vowed to defend the constitution, human rights, and democratic principles on every available legal and political platform, promising to escalate their broader political movement.

He concluded with a firm declaration that his party remains completely unbroken and entirely unready to bow before federal pressure.
