ISLAMABAD (Aug 25, 2026): An enquiry has reportedly been initiated against serving military officer Lt Col Asfand Yar. The investigation stems from an incident where the officer, while in uniform, entered the Sarhad University campus during a student protest on Monday. Following a brief altercation and scuffle with the demonstrators, the situation escalated, resulting in aerial firing.
Initial reports suggest that the arrival of a serving Army officer at the university was not an isolated incident. Instead, tensions had been building for months. A chain of events ultimately led an officer from one of the country’s most disciplined institutions to bypass protocol and take matters into his own hands.
According to some accounts, the colonel’s wife, Dr. Aina, works at the university as the Human Resources (HR) Manager. She has reportedly been involved in an ongoing dispute with the Head of the Nursing Department, Dr. Jadoon Khan, over administrative and management issues.
There are unconfirmed reports that Dr. Aina previously filed a police complaint against Dr. Jadoon Khan alleging harassment. The matter was reportedly resolved after an apology was tendered, and no further legal proceedings were pursued at the time.
However, friction escalated further when Dr. Aina, who holds a PhD in Management Sciences, was granted certain administrative powers that were previously exercised by Dr. Jadoon.According to some student sources, Dr. Jadoon allegedly motivated a group of students to protest in his support by claiming that the university administration intended to terminate his employment.
The students staged a demonstration, closing the university gates and demanding Dr. Aina’s resignation. When she approached the protest site to engage with the students, a verbal altercation ensued, during which a student reportedly insulted her. Following this confrontation, she contacted her husband.Lt Col Asfand Yar arrived at the campus shortly after in military uniform. Upon his arrival, a heated exchange took place between him and the protesting students, and the situation rapidly deteriorated.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the officer arriving alongside his wife. After a verbal exchange, he attempted to strike a student with a baton. The students retaliated, leading to a physical confrontation. Outnumbered and facing a crowd in front of his spouse, the officer reportedly resorted to using his weapon to disperse the attackers, firing warning shots into the air which caused the students to scatter.
The protesting students have since demanded the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and the immediate arrest of the officer. Following the incident, senior officials from the Islamabad Police, including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Haroon Joya, arrived at the campus. They assured the demonstrating students that the relevant authorities would take appropriate action regarding the officer’s conduct.
Sources indicate that the military leadership has taken serious notice of the breach of discipline, and a formal inquiry against the officer is currently underway. Strict disciplinary action will follow the completion of the formal investigation if the Lt Colonel is found guilty.
