NAROWAL: An 18-year-old youth drowned on Wednesday while bathing in a seasonal rainwater drain in the Shakargarh tehsil of Narowal district.
The victim, identified as Mohammad Ali, had gone to Nullah Baein near Kotli Syedan with a group of friends on September 2. According to reports, Ali and one of his friends entered the water to swim when Ali suddenly began to struggle and submerge.
Cell phone footage recorded by another friend standing on the bank captured the incident. The video shows that the friend swimming alongside Ali managed to swim back to safety without attempting a rescue, despite being only inches away. Ali drowned just a few yards from the riverbank.
Nullah Baein is a sandy, seasonal stream located in the northeastern region of Punjab that swells during periods of heavy rainfall.
