ISLAMABAD (Aug 18, 2026): Google on Tuesday opened its local office in Islamabad, hitting a new milestone in a country yearning to catch up with the digital world. An impressive inaugural ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s House to welcome the US-based technology giant to the country.
Before the formal inauguration, a nine-member delegation of Google, led by Wilson White, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, called on Shehbaz Sharif. Natalie Baker, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, also accompanied the delegation.
After the meeting, the Prime Minister, Wilson White, Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, and other dignitaries jointly unveiled a plaque to mark the inauguration of Google’s office in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister welcomed Google’s initiative, noting that it would further strengthen the country’s partnership with the company. He appreciated Google’s role in advancing Pakistan’s digital economy and lauded its initiatives that have enabled thousands of Pakistani youth to secure productive employment. The Prime Minister stated that with Google’s local presence now established, high-impact programs could be scaled up further.

“Google is a household name, not only in Pakistan but around the globe and there’s a great scope to have a wonderful partnership with Google and enhance our relations in many ways. It’s a very interesting and sheer coincidence that you’re here at a time when Pakistan is going through a major digital transformation in many areas of our governance. We are doing a lot but a lot more is required to be done,” the Prime Minister said.
Wilson White briefed the Prime Minister on Google’s future plans. He said the local office would deepen Google’s commitment to accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation and build on years of existing partnership to create long-term opportunities for Pakistani youth and help local businesses go global. He stated that Google recognizes the immense potential of Pakistan’s young population and is keen to expand upskilling programs in IT, AI, gaming, and other areas.
