ISLAMABAD (Aug 19, 2026): Strongly rejecting the statement by US ambassador to India Sergio Gor characterizing Kashmir as an “integral part of India,” Pakistan summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker to the Foreign Office to lodge a strong demarche on Wednesday.
Pakistan made it clear to the United States that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory, the final resolution of which must be determined in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the US Ambassador’s irresponsible remarks contradict Washington’s long-standing and documented stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Furthermore, the ambassador’s statement undermines the US commitment to the supremacy of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The spokesperson added that, following Operation Maarka-e-Haq, Pakistan appreciated US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate the Jammu and Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, and urged the US to respect the disputed and internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Since taking charge as the 27th US Ambassador to India on January 12 this year, Sergio Gor first time visited Srinagar on Wednesday, August 19. During his visit, the US ambassador stated tha Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India.
Gor’s remarks contradict his own country’s stance which considers the region as disputed. India and Pakistan have fought three wars specifically over this disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
