HANGU (Sept 20): Two young army officers and four soldiers have been martyred after a military convoy was ambushed by heavily armed terrorists in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On Sunday, the convoy was moving through the rugged Hisari area, within the Kahi Kacha Pakha region, when it came under intense fire. According to military and local police sources, the troops fought back bravely, but six personnel suffered fatal injuries during the fierce firefight.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the fallen officers, 23-year-old Captain Abuzar Farooq from Gujranwala and 22-year-old Lieutenant Sheraz Babar from Chakwal, were out in front leading their men when they were killed. Another soldier was wounded in the attack and rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Sepoy Shakeel Ahmed Shaheed, Sepoy Hamza Shaheed, Sepoy Muhammad Usman Aziz Shaheed, and none-combatant Ghulam Sajjad were among the martyred soldiers.

The facility’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Haleem-ur-Rehman, confirmed that the injured soldier is currently in stable condition.

Pakistan Army blamed the ambush on “Khawarij”, a term used by the state for domestic terrorist factions, and claimed the attackers operate with cross-border backing from Indian intelligence.

A large-scale clearance and sanitization operation has been launched across the difficult terrain of Hangu as elite forces hunt down the remaining militants involved in the deadly assault.
