QUETTA (Sept 20): A major manhunt is underway in Balochistan after unidentified gunmen intercepted and abducted two local cricketers on their way back from a regional tournament on Sunday.

The young players, identified as Dadan Wali and Zakir, were travelling through the volatile Kachhi Canal area on the outskirts of Dera Bugti when their vehicle was targeted.

According to local sources, the pair were returning to Dera Bugti after playing a competitive match in Kandhkot, in the neighbouring Sindh province, when armed men ambushed them and forced them into captivity.

Anxiety is mounting for the young sportsmen as their families confirmed that no contact has been made by the kidnappers, and no ransom demands have been received.

A combined force of local police and the paramilitary Levies Force has cordoned off the area and launched sweeping search operations across the rugged terrain to secure their safe recovery.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the abductions.
