ISLAMABAD (Sept 14): The government on Monday increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs4.42 and Rs6.10 per litre, respectively. Following the price revision, petrol will retail at Rs380.24 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs409.42 per litre.
The government continues to levy Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on both fuels, despite an ongoing protest by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) demanding the abolition of the petroleum levy.
Govt increases petrol price by Rs12.90 amid talks with JI
On July 17, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices would be fixed on a daily basis due to fluctuations in the international market following renewed hostilities between Iran and the US. Prior to this announcement, government officials had been announcing weekly revisions for fuel prices since early March.
