YEJAHAN REPORT
ISLAMABAD (Oct 16): The Punjab Forensic Science Agency report points the finger at Zeeshan Arshad as the main culprit behind Hina Javed’s murder. The findings heavily implicate Arshad while showing little physical evidence linking the victim’s husband, Faisal Asghar Imam, or her father-in-law, Asghar Ali, to the scene of the attack.
Evidence of violence
The forensic report outlines a violent struggle in the apartment’s southeastern bedroom and washroom. Investigators matched Arshad’s DNA profile to a knife handle and casing, four sections of electric wire wrapped around Javed’s neck, and a cut wire tied to a shower rod.
His genetic profile was also recovered from the knots and fabric of a multicolored cloth used to tie the victim’s wrists, as well as her bedroom carpet, bedsheets, an extension board, and a wristband found on the floor. On the victim’s body, technicians found Arshad’s DNA on left-hand nail swabs and post-mortem swabs that tested positive for spermatozoa. Police also recovered Arshad’s own clothing, which tested positive for his blood.
Forced entry signs
While physical evidence places the servant inside the room, the perimeter shows a different timeline. The husband’s DNA was missing from Javed’s body, the wires, and the bedroom carpet. Instead, technicians found Imam’s DNA on a broken door lock found on the floor outside the apartment’s main entrance and on the inner upper lock bolt of the southeastern bedroom door. Detectives are also reviewing a bedsheet recovered after Arshad pointed it out to police, which contained blood matching the husband’s profile.
Lineage DNA results
The report detailed a complex Y-STR profile, which tracks male lineage, from a mixture of biological material at the scene. Because Imam and his father, Asghar Ali Fayaz, share a paternal line, they carry an identical Y-STR profile.
Forensic analysts concluded the mixture contains DNA from at least three men, stating that neither the husband, the father-in-law, nor the servant can be excluded as contributors. A database search indicated that the likelihood of these specific individuals being the donors is 11,513 times more probable than random, unrelated men.
Lahore police face growing pressure to determine whether the servant acted alone or if the broken locks point to a staged break-in.
Prosecutors are currently preparing to present the forensic report in court.
Forty-five-year-old Hina Javed was murdered on August 20 this year. Her body was discovered inside Askari Apartments in the Lalkurti area of Rawalpindi.
According to her brother, Fahad Javed Malik, he rushed to the apartment after receiving an emergency call from Hina’s father-in-law. Upon entry, he found his sister deceased in the bathroom. The autopsy and police reports indicated that she had been bound, gagged, and strangled.
