ISLAMABAD (Sept 7): The government has hiked the petrol price by Rs. 12.90 after a two-day hiatus. The price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) has also been raised by Rs. 3.72 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy, the new price of one litre of petrol is Rs. 358.77, while the diesel price stands at Rs. 381.77. The revised ex-depot prices are effective from September 08, 2026.
The revised petroleum prices were determined under the federal government’s revised petroleum pricing mechanism.
The government jacked up petroleum prices even as Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) protested against the petroleum levy. On Monday, following talks with officials, JI leader Liaquat Baloch stated that the party had handed over six proposals.
He added that they will keep negotiating with the government while continuing their sit-in. In fact, petrol prices have shot up by Rs. 33.70 per litre since the party first launched its protest campaign.
