How the song “Bhari Court Mein Goli Maarenge Meri Jaan” cost a Haryanvi singer his life

NEW DELHI (Aug 28): Haryanvi singer and popular YouTuber Ankit Baliyan was shot dead in Shamli, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, allegedly over a provocative song that mocked a notorious gangster. Baliyan was preparing to contest the district panchayat elections.
The 32-year-old singer was leaving a gym around 6:45 pm in Kotwali when four assailants riding two motorcycles opened fire on him as he walked toward his Scorpio SUV. Out of 18 bullets fired, five struck him in the head and abdomen, while three bullets hit his vehicle’s windshield. Baliyan was declared dead on arrival at a community health centre.
Just two hours before his death, Baliyan had uploaded a video on Instagram where he was seen sitting in a car, singing a few lines from his Haryanvi song “Baby Badmash,” which came out last month.
The killing triggered protests and a road blockade by his family and supporters, and his mother sat with his body on the road.
The young man was known for his hit song “Bhari Court Mein Goli Maarenge Meri Jaan” (“We’ll shoot you in a court full of people, my darling”). While police began their investigation, Indian social media was abuzz with different claims.
A social media post attributed to Bholu Shahpuria of the Gogi gang claimed responsibility, citing a song Baliyan made referencing the 2021 courtroom killing of gangster Jitendra Mann alias Gogi, and alleging he[Baliyan] supported their rivals.

The founder of Gogi Gang, Jitendra Mann alias Gogi, was a gangster from Alipur in Delhi who was assassinated on September 24, 2021, by rivals inside a courtroom, and the incident is linked to the couplets of the song “Bhari Court Mein Goli Maarenge Meri Jaan”.
Gogi was brought to Rohini courtroom in Delhi where two men including a gangster Jaydeep Jagga from Sonipat killed him. They bypassed security by disguising themselves in lawyers’ robes to blend into the crowd. As soon as they approached Gogi, Jaydeep opened fire, killing him on the spot. Delhi Police counter-intelligence personnel immediately retaliated, shooting both attackers dead inside the courtroom. It is claimed that Gogi’s murder was orchestrated by his arch-rival Sunil, alias Tillu Tajpuriya.
The Gogi gang, however, survived even after the murder of Gogi as Deepak Boxer from Sonipat took over the leadership of this gang. He has been keeping it active in organized crime. The syndicate routinely makes headlines in Northern India due to ongoing retaliations, extortion rackets, and violent clashes with rival networks. This gang engages in land grabbing, collecting extortion money, and ‘supari’ killings. In August 2023, Delhi Police arrested Chirag Kala and Sagar Sethi of the Gogi gang in at least 10 cases of extortion.
Ankit Baliyan was recently shooting his videos in Sonipat. Due to extortion threats, he had stopped living in Sonipat about 7 months ago and shifted to Shamli city near his village.
Shamli police formed teams and are examining CCTV footage plus the claim’s authenticity while investigating possible Haryana gang links, though they have not yet verified the claim.
