KARACHI (Aug 29): A striking video exposing alleged police collusion and bias in the metropolitan city of Karachi has taken social media by storm. The clip shows an influential woman physically assaulting her neighbor right in front of policemen. She then went on to file a criminal case against the victims and to add to the gravity, the cops obediently rounded up and detained the individuals she pointed out.

The incident took place around midnight on August 21st in an apartment complex located in the Chota Bukhari Commercial Area of Defense Phase 6. According to preliminary details, a heated argument over a parking space between families living on the third and fourth floors quickly escalated into a violent brawl.
The viral footage captures Maryam, a resident of the fourth floor, walking down the stairs flanked by two uniformed police officers. Carrying an iron exercise dumbbell, she lunges at Nooralain, the resident of the third floor, and her brother. What stands out in the clip is the behavior of the police. Rather than stepping in to stop the altercation, the cops appeared to stand by or even support the attacker. `

One of the officers in plainclothes used the butt of an official Kalashnikov to smash the CCTV camera installed at the front door of the victims’ flat.
Right after the clash, Maryam, the influential resident from the fourth floor, rushed to the Darakhshan Police Station where she managed to file a counter-case against the injured brother and sister. Her complaint claimed that they were the aggressors and went as far as accusing them of stealing her gold earring and two gold rings during the scuffle. According to sources, the woman is a relative of a senior police officer in Karachi.

A separate video later surfaced showing the aftermath, with Nooralain visibly injured and bleeding from the face. Until the filing of this report, no police version has surfaced regarding the incident.
