LAHORE (Oct 17): A chaotic brawl erupted inside the Amiruddin Ward of Lahore’s Gulab Devi Hospital when a group of female attendants physically assaulted a female doctor on duty following a dispute over patient care. The confrontation quickly escalated into a facility-wide disruption, exposing deep structural tensions between medical staff and grieving families over alleged corruption and administrative delays.

The incident began when the relatives of a patient requested an immediate transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Witnesses report that the conversation quickly degenerated into a heated shouting match between the family and the attending female doctor. The situation turned physical after the doctor objected to being filmed on a mobile phone by one of the visitors. Following a verbal dispute, the doctor reportedly slapped one of the female attendants.

In response, several other women accompanying the patient rushed the physician, overpowering and beating her.

Seeking to regain control, the doctor summoned hospital security and paramedics. Hospital staff retaliated by herding the patient’s relatives into a nearby room and locking them inside, effectively detaining them on the premises.

The family has leveled serious accusations against the hospital’s operational environment. Following the altercation, the relatives claimed that the physical fight was the boiling point of a broken system, alleging that paramedic staff had initially demanded bribes to facilitate the patient’s treatment. They asserted that the doctor’s aggressive behavior compounded the extortion attempt, leaving them with no recourse.

Hospital administration has not yet released an official statement regarding the bribery allegations or the subsequent locking up of the citizens, as local authorities look into the breakdown of security inside the ward.
