LAHORE (Setp 28): Police have detained twenty people following the alleged gang-rape of a foreign national, Diana, in an upscale area of Lahore, sources revealed on Sunday.
The victim was brought before a local court in the city’s Cantonment district under tight security. Officers requested that her formal statement be recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a provision allowing testimony to be preserved as primary evidence. However, Duty Magistrate Iram Yousaf directed the police to present the woman again on Monday (today) before the designated magistrate handling the case.
Detectives tracking the suspects have intensified their sweep across the city. Alongside the twenty individuals held on suspicion, officers raided a property in the Sundar district, detaining the family members of two key suspects identified as Mohsin and Tanveer.
Intelligence sources indicate that investigators have already established the identities of three men and two women allegedly involved in the targeted attack. A vehicle believed to have been used during the crime has also been seized and taken into police custody for forensic analysis.
Diana who hailed from Baku in Azerbaijan had arrived in the city some 14 days before the attack.
She was given a spiked drink at a flat in Lahore on Saturday and was subjected to gang-rape by some ‘friends’. Following the assault, the suspects abandoned her near Fruit Chowk at the Ghazi Interchange, before fleeing the scene.
