ISLAMABAD (Sept 24): Pakistani fighter jets have launched a second wave of retaliatory airstrikes inside Afghanistan after shooting down multiple cross-border drones, delivering a stark warning to Kabul over escalating frontier violence.

The precision operations, which struck targets in Kandahar, Khost, and Paktika provinces around 3:00 AM on Thursday, follow days of sharpening tensions between the neighboring nations. On Wednesday, Pakistani air defense systems intercepted and destroyed eight unmanned aerial vehicles that crossed over from Afghan territory. This came just days after earlier Pakistani counter-terrorism strikes targeted militant groups blamed for a deadly attack in Kohat.

Pakistan’s Information Minister, Atta Ullah Tarar, confirmed the military action in a statement on social media platform X, declaring that Islamabad acted in exercise of its sovereign right to self-defense. He stated that the strikes were deliberate, calibrated, and strictly limited to military objectives linked to the attempted drone attacks against Pakistan.

Tarar warned that Pakistan will neither accept nor tolerate attacks launched from Afghan territory, whether by terrorist groups or by the Afghan Taliban regime itself, adding that attempts to deflect responsibility would not constrain Pakistan’s right to defend its territory.

While Pakistani officials emphasized that the country does not seek wider escalation and remains committed to regional peace, the information minister made it clear that this commitment must not be mistaken for weakness. He warned that any further provocative acts by the Afghan Taliban would face a firm and resolute response.

Reports on the ground offer differing accounts of the impact. The Taliban regime downplayed the morning raids, with spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stating that the bombardment targeted a desert area in Kandahar city and caused no casualties or damage.

However, independent sources report a much wider operation, claiming Pakistani aircraft hit a militant camp in Mian Koh, weapons depots, and Camp Gecko. Further explosions were also reported at the Sahra Bagh military facility in Khost and an ammunition depot in Paktika province.
